My Brother Finished Collar x Malice...& Enomoto's a Himbo!

Hey all! My brother finished Collar x Malice; here are his thoughts! If you don't want spoilers, scroll down below for a conclusion to his otome journey.~
His thoughts on Enomoto’s route: “I LOVE the route, but I don’t like the boy [Enomoto]; I’m sorry! He is such a himbo! I love his route, I love his arc of learning to trust again…but god, he’s just such a himbo that I’m like, ‘meh, I don’t know’. I thought it ended on kind of an anticlimax, though, where it’s just like “and then they stopped Ogata. The End” What?! Where’s the climax that I deserve?! Where’s Adonis’ hideout?! Instead it’s like ‘and then they talked to him [Ogata]. The End.” Also, “I thought the climax would play on the fact that Enomoto has trouble trusting people…but it didn’t? It’s not that it’s a bad conclusion, & he still got a good conclusion to his arc in learning to not put his sempais on a pedestal, & evolve his idea of justice like he asks Ogata to do at the end, but I just wanted more on the fact that he had to trust Ichika & accept, full circle, that cops aren’t saints.” Finally, “I really liked the case in this one, & the fact that he’s the one who found the body. I enjoy him as a character & a concept, & just don’t like his actual character very much!” Also, “the bad ending [where love isn’t high enough] is so sad. I’m like, ‘no Ichika, return to your boy! What are you doing?!’ I’m sad now.” One last note: “I hate his eyepatch. It’s such a dumb reason to wear an eyepatch, I’m like ‘please stop; it’s not cool Enomoto!’ I’m sorry; that’s my truth.” Overall, “It’s a 7 [out of 10]. If I liked Enomoto more, it would’ve been an 8. He’s a very interesting person, and a very loving person—I just think he’s a dunce!” ∠( ᐛ 」∠)_
Finally, shoutouts to u/supersonic_princess who called Enomoto a himbo in my last post with my brother’s thoughts; as my brother said, “that’s the perfect way to describe Enomoto!" ( ̄▽ ̄)ノ
Also, during Enomoto's route, he predicted that Zero is either Saeki or Mochida. So, he predicted Saeki being Zero before playing Yanagi's route!
Before starting Yanagi's route, he said "I'm honestly not looking forward to it; I think he's pretty boring." When he got to the part where you had to type in Zero's name, he had forgotten Saeki's first name, so he had to Google it. "I actually suspected Saeki for a while, but seeing Ichika's reaction [to Saeki being suspected] was like poor baby; she had no idea!" After playing the route, "Yanagi's still boring; I'm sorry. He's a fine person, but he's just boring to me--he's trope-y & boring." Also, unfortunately, "The route didn't have any surprising twists & turns, because I already figured out who Zero is, & I already figured out Yanagi's backstory. I wanted to see twists & turns like with the other routes, but I didn't, which was disappointing." And, "Yanagi's not a bad guy or anything--he's just boring! He gets more interesting after they start dating, but he's still not overly interesting. He seems like he's a good guy for Hoshino--I just didn't like him. I thought [the route] was interesting, especially Saeki wanting to be killed by Hoshino so the cycle could continue, & the endings where she becomes part of Adonis were interesting. I honestly don't have a lot to say--his route just kind of bored me. It's just ok." One little note, "I didn't get the last CG--I had to go back & have him hold my hand instead of hug me." And finally, "he's a 6.5 out of 10. He's boring--sorry Yanagi!" ∩(︶▽︶)∩
His final thoughts on the game: "You can make the argument that Collar x Malice is just police propaganda, because it's like police uwu the whole time. But I don't think that argument would be engaging with the text honestly, because [the game] has a lot to say about if the police are even trustworthy to begin with--that's not giving it as much credit as it deserves. It deals with can you even trust the cops to begin with, & asks a lot of interesting questions about who gets to choose justice, & why the people who choose justice are important. I can see this is coming from my American perspective, because there's a lot of police brutality in America, whereas I don't know how the police are in Japan." Also, "I also feel a sense of dread--it's implied in all the endings except the true route that Adonis got away, & Saeki's still at the police station, so I'm like uh-oh. Well, they're doomed." "I liked all the boys--I at least liked each of them a little bit. It was fun getting to know each one--they're all lovely people, except Shiraishi, not as lovely, but he's trying though." Finally, "I'm really interested to see what Unlimited covers now. I need that soft sweet romance!" (*・▽・*)
His favorite boys from best to worst: Sasazuka>Okazaki>Enomoto>Shiraishi = Yanagi. "Sasazuka and Okazaki are up there, almost tied, then there's a gap & there's Enomoto, & then there's another gap & there's Shiraishi & Yanagi." ヽ(・∀・)ノ
To finish off, just like with Code Realize, my brother came up with songs for each character. They are below:
The whole game: Basset-Hound - Black Cat #13
Adonis: Dream Sweet in Sea Major
Takeru: Shiffley - Harmonic
Okazaki: Fun.: - Sight Of The Sun
Enomoto: Hellogoodbye - Finding Things To Do
Shiraishi: Coldplay - The Scientist
Yanagi: Hoobastank - The Reason
One last thought from him after playing Code Realize, Future Blessings, & Collar x Malice: "I really like the heroines in these games! I thought they'd be more self-insert-y, but they're really fleshed out & have a lot of personality, & I really like them." (❁´▽`❁)*✲゚*
And my brother liked the game so much, he's already written CxM fanfiction & has bought CxM merch! Specifically some buttons & this Collar x Malice Casino tapestry featuring Sasazuka (1st pic). In his words, "I just had to get my boy with a headband." Apparently it'll arrive soon.~
He also made casino! Takeru his phone lock screen. In his own words, "Takeru with a headband is an unbridled delight." (≡^∇^≡)
He also listened to the Collar x Malice character songs! In his words, "I f*cking love Okazaki's! And of course Takeru's is good too, but I'm like, 'it's a little downbeat for his character'. I'll admit, though, it's grown on me" (*´▽`*)
He'll be playing Collar x Malice Unlimited next, & after that Piofoire: Fated Memories! I won't be posting his thoughts because I haven't played either game & don't want to be spoiled, but I'm happy he'll be checking them both out! (‐^▽^‐)
Finally, to finish off this long post, I'll tell you what my brother said after I told him, "I'm glad you like the game [Collar x Malice]." His response was, "I really like it! Thank you for sharing it with me. It’s humbling that you introduced me to this because it’s been such a big part of your life, so it’s really nice that you wanted to share that part of your life with me.” He then added, “I’m glad you got me into otome. They’re really good, & playing them makes me really happy. And the stories in these ones are really good. I want more! I'm glad you introduced me to these things.” Hearing that almost made me tear up. ;_;

Command Center - Home Lab - DIY Hub - Workbench - My Home!

Hi all! So... I posted my home lab a few days ago.. I am new to homelab and new to reddit in general. I apologize that I did not give any specs or purpose with that first post. I will attempt a new post with more recent pics and details. Please let me know if you have any questions.
My lab is mostly used for non-production network test environment, CUCM testing, voice, video, VM hosting (RSA authentication manager, DNS server, Domain controller, Plex Server (LOL). Configs are constantly changing.
FYI about me:
I am a Network Engineer II in the Kansas City area. I have a CCNP in Routing & Switching, a CCNP in Enterprise, a CCNA in Security, and a CCDP. My scope of work pushes past networking though. I also work with RSA, Palo Alto, AWS, Azure, Megaport , Infoblox and CUCM. I would be happy to help anyone out if they have configuration questions or need advice with setting up a home lab.
P.S. - I have the best wife.. She let me take over the basement of our house to build my dream office!

45 U Rack - Hardware/Purpose Listed Top to Bottom
Cisco 2921 - Practice redistributing OSPF into eBGP, EIGRP into OSPF, voice module connected to CUCM
Patch Panel, cable management (I know... needs some work, but I move things so frequently that it is hard for it to be worth it)
Cisco 3850 48 UPOE - details in next photo
Cisco 3850 XS 10G SFP+ - details in next photo
Cisco 9300 48 UPOE - details in next photo
HP StorageWorks d2700 6Gb SAS enclosure - directly attached to DL360p via SAS cable/controller
HPe DL360p Gen8 - several virtual machines which host: Cisco UCM, PfSense, Docker, Plex, TFTP server, FTP Server, DNS/Domain controller via Windows Server 2019
Dell r710 - currently has one VM via esxi 6.7 running Windows Server 2016. Not currently doing much other than hosting some FTP files. Any suggestions??
HPe KVM display
(3) EMC RecoverPoint Gen 5 servers - Using one as a backup and recovery server for my servers, desktop and laptops. Second one is going to be modified into my 13 year-old son's first server. The third I need to aquire some HDDs to get it operational again.
Tripp Lite KVM display (my son will most likely get this one when his rack is ready)
Citrix Netscalers - practicing XenDesktop deployments for practice/fun
Cisco Cat 4510R+E (this will be deployed in a closet in a couple weeks once the supervisors are configured and construction is finished - work from home situation)

Cisco Cat Switches
Cisco 3850 48 UPOE (C3850-NM-4-10G Module)
Cisco 3850 XS 10G SFP+ (C3850-NM-4-10G Module)
Cisco 9300 48 UPOE (C9300-NM-8X Module)
Currently using to practice redistribution of EIGRP into OSPF, using cloud-based F5 deployment to load balance DL360pG8 server, restricted port security, single-mode fiber uplink run to neighbors house (approx. 80 meters)

Desk Setup
Desk Setup
Monitors (Counter-clockwise starting with the top): LG 32UN650-W (32" 4K) - Samsung C43J890 43.4" 4K - Dell UltraSharp U2415 24" WUXGA
Cisco Cat 3560-CX - I use this for quick connections for devices I am working on my workbench/desk area
Elgato Stream Deck - I do not use this for any sort of media creation/streaming. This thing is awesome to program scripts/automation, run commands, lock your system, control panel short cuts, etc. Highly recommend!
Sliding keyboard/mouse tray. Saves space when pushed under the desk, also puts me back far enough away from the monitors for a good viewing angle.
Organization tubs with labels, power tools, esd bags, fishing tape, batteries, rack screws, etc
UniFi Security Gateway Pro, Opengear Console Manager 7100, Cisco VG310, Mellanox IS5022
CIVS-IPC-2830 - super fun to play with! I have a USB joystick to make it move \"Casino Security\" style!

Bench PSU, soldering station, 3D printer supplies
Nuts & Bolts organization. Metric on the left, SAE on the right.
ESD mat for small parts, soldering etc. Highly flexible LED lamp helps a lot with projects.
IFIXIT Manta drivebit set. Kinda pricey but it has been by far the best set I have come across. Also highly recommend!

[Discussion] 25 great albums you might have missed from 2019. Spotify playlist included.

Spotify playlist is here
Google Play playlist courtesy of u/TimeFourChanges is here
Apple Music playlist courtesy of u/LegoWaffles is here
Last year I listened to over 800 albums and posted a few of my favorites. This year I did the same thing, and I’ve had some people asking me to post again, so here goes.
These are not my top 25 albums. These are just 25 albums that I felt were sorely overlooked. Last year some people rightly complained that I included artists which broke the sub’s popularity rules. I’ve done my best to ensure that none of these artists have more than three songs with 500,000+ plays on Spotify, nor 250,000+ listeners on Last.FM. I apologize in advance if something was overlooked. Hopefully we can help get these artists and albums some of the credit they truly deserve! Without further ado, here are 25 great albums you might have missed in 2019:
1. Peter Cat Recording Co. - Bismillah (Released 6/7/19, India)
I’ll admit right off the bat that I’m a huge Tool fan, so my choice for best album of the year is definitely biased. But Bismillah by Peter Cat Recording Co., my second favorite album of the year, sounds nothing like Tool. In fact, it’s pretty much as far as you can get from extended prog metal jams. The music defies classification, drawing from a breadth of influences including rock, folk, jazz, and electronica. The vocals are rich and smooth, reminiscent of classic pop stars like Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. So far, no one I’ve introduced to this album has disliked it. At this point, I’d go so far as to say it will likely appeal to anyone who just plain loves music. Please do yourself a favor and listen to this incredible album!
Standout Tracks: Where the Money Flows, Memory Box, Freezing, Heera
2. Mdou Moctar - Ilana, the Creator (Released 3/29/19, Niger)
There’s a lot of incredible music coming out of African countries that goes virtually unnoticed in the west. Mdou Moctar is one of those artists, a king of desert rock guitar whose psychedelic jams draw heavily on Tuareg folk music. There is an infectious energy to this album that doesn’t let up from beginning to end, and every time I listen, I find myself wishing it were a few songs longer. Despite the fact that I can’t understand a word of the lyrics, it’s one of those albums that makes me feel like I can hear colors and taste sounds. The next time I get my hands on some LSD, this will be my go-to record.
Standout Tracks: Kamane Tarhanin, Tarhatazed, Tumastin
3. Flamingods - Levitation (Released 5/3/19, Bahrain)
In a year with new albums from Pond and the Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, not to mention two new albums from King Gizzard, I never expected this album from a little-known Bahraini group to blow the Australian psychedelic scene out of the water. It’s unpretentious and unassuming, playing it safe rather than pushing the limits of studio experimentation, but Levitation needs no gimmicks. The melodies are catchy and memorable, backed by tight instrumentation with lots of guitar noodling. The influence of traditional Middle Eastern music is audible, but usually subtle. Though there is still room for the band to grow in its sound, this album is nearly perfect as it is.
Standout Tracks: Astral Plane, Peaches, Mantra
4. Bruno Bavota - RE_CORDIS (Released 1/18/19, Italy)
Winter is usually the slow season for new album releases, but the mood of the season perfectly matches the mood of RE_CORDIS. It’s a fairly straightforward album of instrumental compositions enhanced by the lightest accents and effects that demonstrate the delicacy with which Bruno Bavota hones his work. The instrumentation varies from song to song just enough to stay engaging, and while it does encourage wandering thoughts, there are many subtleties to actively listen for. It’s one of those albums that sounds best as you’re just drifting off to sleep, when the silence and darkness of the room allows each note to stand out.
Standout Tracks: Passengers, La luce nel cuore, The Man Who Chased the Sea
5. Cykada - Cykada (Released 3/29/19, England, UK)
For a debut album, Cykada is pretty impressive, and that’s because the musicians behind it are already well established in the London jazz scene. Which of course means jack shit in the world of pop music, so I hope you’ll forgive me stretching the rules of the sub just a little to show off this “supergroup” ensemble. There are only five songs on Cykada, but with the shortest clocking in at just under six minutes, each one feels like a journey in and of itself. If the opening of the first track doesn’t immediately hook you, then perhaps this isn’t the group for you. But if it does, I think you’ll find yourself hanging onto every note until the end of the nearly 12-minute jam that closes out the album.
Standout Tracks: Creation, Ophelia’s Message, Third Eye Thunder
6. Claude Fontaine - Claude Fontaine (Released 4/26/19, California, US)
There’s a tropical undercurrent to the songs on Claude Fontaine, which shamelessly dips into Carribean and Latin American influences, but the tone of the album more somber than sunny. The vocals come across as wistful, at times loney, and the lo-fi production adds a degree of separation that feels like listening to a memory of a bygone summer. There’s nothing technically impressive about this album, and in fact the opposite is often true, but something about the raw introspection coupled with atypical Latin grooves feels like slipping into a dream.
Standout Tracks: Hot Tears, Love Street, Pretending He Was You
7. Iguana Death Cult - Nude Casino (Released 10/25/19, Netherlands)
By the time Iguana Death Cult released their album Nude Casino just before Halloween, I was expecting the year to more or less be over, musically speaking. Then I found myself playing this album on repeat at work, and it quickly shot up into my top 20 on the strength of every song being an absolute jam. The band is so clearly having fun that it’s all but impossible not to join in. The bouncy, dance-like energy reminds me a bit of early Arctic Monkeys. As an added credit, I’d say they’re a strong contender for the best band name/album name combo of the year.
Standout Tracks: Nude Casino, Liquify, Nature Calls
8. Saor - Forgotten Paths (Released 2/15/19, Scotland, UK)
This album feels cinematic, on the scale of Lord of the Rings or The Avengers. It’s an overwhelming experience, like watching thunderheads roll in over the plains, except instead of thunder and lightning it’s blast beats and metal screams. There are moments of symphonic grandeur, but also passages of graceful simplicity that draw inspiration from folk and chamber music. Even if you aren’t generally a fan of distorted vocals, it’s worth a listen for the instrumentals alone.
Standout Tracks: Forgotten Paths, Monadh, Bròn
9. Sandro Perri - Soft Landing (Released9/6/19, Canada)
I’m not really sure how to describe or categorize Sandro Perri’s music. Google suggests he’s been classified as “post rock”, “ambient”, and “folk”, but none of those terms really see to fit. His music is experimental if nothing else, exploring the simplest ideas to the fullest extent and crafting entire songs around short musical phrases. Despite the peaceful vibe, Soft Landing isn’t really background music. The pieces of the puzzle all sound familiar on their own, but Sandro Perri assembles them in a way that sounds strange and unique, and might cause you to involuntarily cock your head to the side as you listen.
Standout Tracks: Time (You Got Me), Wrong About the Rain, Soft Landing
10. Uluru - Acrophilia (Released 2/8/19, Turkey)
One thing that I love about the explosion of psychedelic rock over the past decade is that it’s largely transcended geography. Uluru is another example of the intersection between Middle Eastern and psychedelic music, but unlike Flamingods, Uluru tends more towards the crunchy stoner rock end of the spectrum. This album is also different in that it’s entirely instrumental, but that doesn’t make it feel incomplete. At just seven songs, each between 3-8 minutes, Acrophilia is just the right size to leave an impression without wearing on into endless jam sessions.
Standout Tracks: Şark, Constantine, Aeternum
11. Jimmy “Duck” Holmes - Cypress Grove (Released 10/18/19, Mississippi, US)
Some music ages like fine wine, but the blues ages like whiskey. Like many underappreciated blues pioneers, Jimmy “Duck” Holmes didn’t start recording studio albums until fairly late in his life. Despite going unnoticed by the music industry, Holmes is a fixture of Mississippi blues history, and deserves every bit as much acclamation as his contemporaries. Cypress Grove doesn’t features surprising new compositions. It’s the work of a true artist interpreting old standards, and though it sticks keenly to tradition, there’s nothing quite as genuine as an old blues master pouring a lifetime of experience into an acoustic guitar.
Standout Tracks: Catfish Blues, Goin’ Away Baby, Little Red Rooster
12. Julian Taylor Band - Avalanche (Released 3/29/19, Canada)
This album exemplifies the meaning of “groove”. Lyrically it doesn’t offer any hot takes or great philosophical depth, but it will make your foot tap and your head nod whether you like it or not. It’s music for late summer evenings, for grilling out and driving to the beach. But if you like magic mushrooms and hackysack, this album might touch you on a deep emotional level.
Standout Tracks: Time, Back Again, Never Let the Lights Go Dim
13. Modern Nature - How to Live (Released 8/23/19, England, UK)
How to Live didn’t leave much of an impression when I first heard it back in September, but as I was going back over my top albums at the end of the year, it suddenly connected with me. Maybe it was the funky beats, or the flawless blend of electric and acoustic instruments. Maybe it was just the large quantity of marijuana edibles I’d ingested. But there’s something fascinating and engaging about the delivery of these songs. It’s not just the vocals, which are hardly above a whisper. Even the instrumentals sound stealthy, as if the band recorded at night and didn’t want to wake the neighbors. The songs also stick with you, but not in the sense of a Top 40 earworm. More like a ghost haunting from just over your shoulder. Each time I listen to this album I find something new to like about it.
Standout Tracks: Footsteps, Peradam, Nature
14. Fvneral Fvkk - Carnal Confessions (Released 9/27/19, Germany)
Everything about this band seems intentionally offensive, from their conjunction of religion and sexuality to their egregious misspelling of the word “fuck”. But when you’re through clutching your pearls, check out the rich vocals and heavy riffs that make this metal band’s debut album stand out. If you’re into heavy rock but don’t care for unclean vocals, this should make you a happy camper. Unless you’re a member of the clergy, then perhaps give this album a pass.
Standout Tracks: Chapel of Abuse, A Shadow in the Dormitory, The Hallowed Leech
15. Dommengang - No Keys (Released 5/17/19, California, US)
Dommengang aren’t breaking down musical barriers, but I can’t find a single song on this album that I dislike. In the era of music streaming, there’s something to be said for a collection of solid singles that can each stand on their own. But No Keys is more than just a collection of singles. The sum of its parts is a cohesive album that touches on blues rock, psychedelic, and metal without committing to any one style, all following a current of driving rock guitar riffs with plenty of flourishes.
Standout Tracks: Wild Wash, Kudzu, Jerusalem Cricket
16. Magic Circle - Departed Souls (Released 3/29/19, Massachusetts, US)
Magic Circle is a bit like the Greta Van Fleet of Black Sabbath wannabes. Unlike Greta Van Fleet, however, these guys have serious musical talent and songwriting ability that make Departed Souls more of a respectful tribute than a piss on the legacy of 70s hard rock. There is also a good bit of originality to this album, and while it’s obvious that vocalist could pull off a flawless Ozzy impression if he tried, there’s a modicum of restraint that suggests the incorporation of broader influences. In fact, some of the albums best moments are when the band isn’t directly emulating the classics.
Standout Tracks: Departed Souls, Valley of the Lepers, Nightland
17. Obsequiae - The Palms of Sorrowed Kings (Released 11/22/19, Minnesota, US)
The Palms of Sorrowed Kings is an album of stark contrasts, catapulting back and forth between brutal, howling metal and languid, acoustic folk. The end result is an emotional journey with moments of triumph, rage, introspection, heartbreak, and tranquility. While the vocals accentuate some of the album’s more powerful moments, they aren’t highlighted above any of the other instruments, instead blending into the cacophony like the voice of a commander shouting orders across a field of battle. Fans of tabletop RPGs might want this album playing in the background of an adventuring session.
Standout Tracks: Palästinalied, Morrígan, Lone Isle
18. Black Peaches - Fire in the Hole (Released 5/17/19, England, UK)
Black Peaches have a sort of jam band aesthetic, drawing on the musical influences of the southern US to flavor their brand of psychedelic indie rock. Despite the frontman’s tangential involvement with Hot Chip, the band is firmly rooted in drums and guitars, with a sound more comparable to Phish or Widespread Panic than any synthpop outfit. Whether cranking along to frantic percussion or grooving smoothly over funk textures, the songs on Fire in the Hole are wild and dynamic from beginning to end.
Standout Tracks: Fire in the Hole, Black Peach Boogie, Pillars of Hercules
19. YĪN YĪN - The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers (Released 10/18/19, Netherlands)
As much as I try to be objective when approaching new music, I can’t help but love what I love. The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers checks a lot of boxes for me: psychedelic atmosphere, unique instrumentation, lengthy jams, danceable rhythms, incorporation of world music styles - even the artwork instantly attracted me to this album. While perhaps it’s not a perfect record, it has a lot of relistenability, and no other album released in 2019 sounds quite like it.
Standout Tracks: One Inch Punch, The Rabbit That Hunts Tigers, Dis̄ kô Dis̄ kô
20. Red Rum Club - Matador (Released 1/11/19, England, UK)
What’s the easiest way to make your generic indie band stand out? Add a trumpet! Seriously, that’s pretty much what makes the album work. Fans of alt pop bands like Neon Trees, Catfish and the Bottlemen, or Young the Giant will recognize the rather formulaic approach to songwriting - powerful vocals, straightforward lyrics, and hopelessly catchy hooks. But regardless of how many sound-alikes you’ve heard, the soaring brassy tones on Matador imbue the songs with an irresistible dancefloor spirit.
Standout Tracks: Hung Up, Honey, Calexico
21. Ouzo Bazooka - Transporter (Released 1/11/19, Israel)
Ouzo Bazooka isn’t the first group to combine the raw energy of garage rock with the experimental songwriting of psychedelia, but they play it with such skill that any lack of originality should be forgiven. Like many contemporary bands inspired by the music of the 60s and 70s, Ouzo Bazooka isn’t picky about the sources from which they draw influence, and their music benefits from that open-mindedness. At times they appear to be firmly planted in unassuming rock n roll, only to blast off to the cosmos at a moment’s notice, taking you along for the ride.
Standout Tracks: Latest News, Space Camel, Killing Me
22. Konradsen - Saints and Sebastian Stories (Released 10/25/19, Norway)
Konradsen makes a lot of interesting musical decisions in the songwriting on Saints and Sebastian Stories. These songs aren’t likely to hook you on your first listen, and might even seem off-putting as they meander slowly over layers of studio effects. The album follows the precedent set by experimental indie artists like Bon Iver, combining disparate elements from jazz percussion lingering piano chords to shy-sounding horns. It’s the type of album that takes a couple songs to warm up, but then continues escalating and improving as it unfolds.
Standout Tracks: Dice, Baby Hallelujah, Red to Rhyme
23. Black String - Karma (Released 9/27/19, South Korea)
Generally speaking, jazz isn’t my favorite genre. That said, Karma doesn’t sound like what most people first think of when they hear the word “jazz”. The improvisational aspect is there, but the songs are structured around traditional Korean music in a way that subverts western expectations. Fortunately for us westerners, the group has provided a sort of jumping off point in their brilliant cover of Radiohead’s Exit Music (For a Film), reworked until only the bare bones are recognisable.
Standout Tracks: Sureña, Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Exit Music - For a Film
24. the one and only PPL MVR - THE CHOSEN (Released 6/4/19, California, US)
There’s this crazy theory going around that the one and only PPL MVR is actually just the members of Brand New dressed in yeti suits. I’m operating under the assumption that the theory is bunk, and that this gimmicky band is just an underappreciated power trio with a flair for the dramatic. While the band’s prevailing sound can best be described as heavy rock music, they certainly don’t feel the need to pigeonhole themselves. From power chords to autotune, nothing is off the table.
Standout Tracks: NML, MOVE, THE SHOW THAT NEVER ENDS
25. The Garifuna Collective - Aban (Released 9/15/19, Belize)
The Garifuna Collective is ever so slightly outside the normal popularity parameters for listentothis (their third most popular song has 524,000 plays on Spotify), so I beg your leniency for this incredible group of musicians who are widely unknown outside Central America. It’s so outside the spectrum of my normal listening habits that I don’t really know how to classify this kind of music. All I do know is that the rhythms are infectious and the melodies compelling. I’m always somewhat surprised when a group of musicians who speak a different language and live in a place I’ve never visited can reach me through music in a way that transcends culture. The combination of predictable patterns and unfamiliar elements is precisely why I pause to listen.
Standout Tracks: Wiya Waist, Ideruni (Help), Magidu (The Market)
As in 2018, I’ve also been keeping a spreadsheet to track my top 500 favorite albums throughout the year. If anyone’s interested, you can view it here, as well as a 500 song playlist including one song from each album (link is at the top of the spreadsheet). Keep in mind that most of my top 500 albums don’t meet the popularity rules of this sub, nor is it the focus of this post. Since people asked for it last year, I just figured I’d share it again.

Today's Top Headlines for Monday, March 23rd, 2020

  • U.S. stock futures turned strongly positive Monday morning after the Federal Reserve pledged asset purchases with no limit to support markets. Dow futures hit their 5% “limit down” overnight, and were off 600-points at one stage Monday morning, as a massive coronavirus funding package failed a key Senate procedural vote Sunday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average tanked another 900 points or 4.5% on Friday, bringing the weekly decline to over 17% for the worst week since the 2008 financial crisis. Ahead of Monday’s session, the Dow was off more than 35% from last month’s record highs. The New York Stock Exchange’s trading floor will be close starting Monday. The NYSE will go to fully electronic trading. The 10-year Treasury yield, which popped back above 1% last week, was below that level early Monday.
  • Top-level White House and congressional negotiators burned the midnight oil over the now-nearly $2 trillion coronavirus rescue package. Democrats blocked the bill in Sunday’s vote, saying it did too much to bail out companies and not enough to help workers. Several GOP senators, including Rand Paul, who tested positive for the coronavirus, were not present to vote. Others, such as Mitt Romney, were in quarantine as a precaution. The Federal Reserve and Treasury are working on financing programs that could be worth $4 trillion. Goldman Sachs upgraded shares of Boeing, which is hoping for a bailout. Boeing stock has dropped 80% from recent highs on the dual crises of the outbreak and the grounding of its 737 Max.
  • The United States has the third most coronavirus cases in the world, with over 35,000 and 471 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University data. More than half the U.S. cases are in New York, where the death toll increased to 153. Washington state has the second-most cases, with nearly 2,000 confirmed and 95 deaths. New Jersey, California and Illinois round out the top five states. President Donald Trump on Sunday activated the National Guard in New York, Washington state and California in order to combat the spread of the coronavirus. New York plans to run a clinical trial, beginning Tuesday, of a treatment regimen of antimalarial hydroxychloroquine and antibiotic azithromycin, a drug cocktail that has shown promise in fighting the coronavirus.
  • Global coronavirus cases topped 343,000, with 14,789 deaths and over 98,800 recoveries. China, where the outbreak started in December, still has the most cases at over 81,400. China’s 3,274 deaths are second to Italy’s 5,476 deaths. Italy is second in total cases at over 59,100. The U.S., Spain and Germany round out the top five countries. German Chancellor Angela Merkel went into quarantine over the weekend after contact with a doctor who tested positive for the virus. The German government is set to unveil major stimulus measures. Pressure mounts to cancel the Tokyo summer Olympics, set to begin at the end of July. Canada said it won’t send teams to compete. Local media reports indicate that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is considering a delay.
  • Cisco Systems is committing $225 million to assist in efforts aimed at combating the coronavirus while the rest of Silicon Valley also initiates an investment blitz. 3M said it will supply New York and Seattle with a half-million N95 respirator masks to address the ongoing shortage of health-care equipment. Merck said it will supply New York City with a half-million masks. Chinese billionaire and Alibaba founder Jack Ma sent to Africa 5.4 million face masks, over 1 million testing kits, 40,000 sets of protective clothing and 60,000 protective face shields. BlackRock is committing $50 million in outbreak relief.

I have a question about OLED fringe artifacting

I sat down today with my new CX for the first time to watch an entire film: Blade Runner 2049. It really blew me away. By far the most impressive visual spectacle I've seen in my home. So I'm largely very happy.
However, I did notice something in darker scenes. Occasionally, when characters are under-lit and moving, there is a noticeable fringe of light around them when they are against dark backgrounds. For instance, in Blade Runner, Agent K is fleeing Deckard in the casino, and just before he sets off a trip wire you can see this fringe on K's head. It's not something I can capture in a freeze-frame as it seems to go away when paused. So it seems to be fully motion related.
I've got clear motion turned off in Filmmaker HDR mode.
all settings are off: dynamic contrast, tone mapping and super resolution
color gamut is on wide
gama appears locked at 2.2
peak brightness is on medium
White balance is shifted to medium with no other adjustments
Unfortunately the price of the set squeezed me dry for cash, so I'm using an XBONE S as a Blu Ray player.
It seems like such a ridiculous thing to complain about as otherwise the picture is gorgeous. I'm just wondering if this is the baseline for this TV. Comments appreciated.

Pressure mounts to cancel the Tokyo summer Olympics, set to begin at the end of July. Canada said it won’t send teams to compete. Local media reports indicate that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is considering a delay.

Pashinyan reports 2019 economy

Pashinyan went to Parliament to report and answer some questions. He said:
In 2019, we had the highest 7.6% GDP growth since 2008. Highest in EU and EAEU. In Jan/Feb of 2020 the economy grew 8.7%.
[In 2019] Processing industry +12%. For the first time since 2008, it took the biggest share of the economy.
High-tech industry turnover +30%. (includes programming, electronics)
Tourism +14.7%. Exports 10.3% (especially cognac and wine).
The inflow of foreign investments was $2.2bln, or +$465mln YoY, or +$635mln vs 2017.
Tax collection +43.6%.

Pashinyan about taxation:

In 2018/19 we collected 505bln more in taxes. 199bln of it went towards refunding businesses from which IRS over-collected taxes in the past. This was a decades-long issue. The other 306bln was spent on other programs.
Top-1000 taxpayers paid +13% YoY, or +31% vs 2017.
https://armtimes.com/hy/article/187234

Pashinyan about jobs and salaries:

87,000 new or un-shadowed jobs created. Unemployment -2.1%. Poverty -2.2% (total 23.5%). Extreme poverty -0.4% (total 1%). We plan to end extreme poverty by 2023.
Wages +5.8%. Dozens of thousands of teachers, doctors, professors got 10-30% raise. Junior emergency workers 52% raise. Penitentiary salaries +30%. Judicial system raise is planned.
Since 2018, over 1.1 million people saw salary, aid, or pension hike.
https://armtimes.com/hy/article/187234

87,000 new jobs, so why aren't there that many new 1,000 Dram transfers to Army?

Almost every worker pays 1,000AMD/mo to the army Foundation. Pashinyan and IRS said there were 87,000 newly visible jobs, so why aren't there 87,000 number of newly transferred 1,000-drams to the army?
Last year Pashinyan had this to say:
The 1k goes to IRS first before being sent to Foundation. It is collected then sent through cycles. That's where the discrepancy between the visibly available money and the collected money comes from. We could create a group and further understand the delay and discrepancy. It's impossible for us lie about the number of new jobs because of the way they're reported.

The army gave a detailed explanation today:
IRS is not allowed to transfer the 1k fees to Army until the employer meets all payment requirements.
Let's say the employer has 10 workers, but he only made 9 payments worth 1k each to IRS. The IRS knows that there are 10 workers. The IRS doesn't know which one of the 10 workers "didn't pay". The IRS won't send the 9 payments to the army until the 10th is collected. The IRS waits until next month.
Next month, the employer pays 15k. The IRS already had 9k in its bank. Now IRS has 24k.
IRS will send only 20k to the army. Why? Because 10 workers = 20k for 2 months.
The remainder 4k sits in IRS bank and waits for 3rd month.

BHK MP believes some of the "missing" funds were used by the army to make "top secret purchases". He asked the Defense Minister if it can be disclosed.

Pashinyan about COVID aid, hospitals, financial system:

The 16 aid packages have helped >1mln citizens. 21k businesses got favorable loans.
The hospital beds capable of handling COVID went from 300 to 1500, plus more in isolated hotels. Those without symptoms don't need care, so we try to isolate them until they recover. 6,000 suspects had been isolated.
COVID crisis will last until May-2021.
The slight destabilization of the financial system in late-March, is ove. Moreover, the Central Bank purchased $90mln worth currency. The consumer market didn't collapse. Some items got more expensive or cheaper.
https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1014418.html

Pashinyan about requiring everyone to file taxes:

The COVID proved once again about the need to have a universal tax declaration system. It should be required for everyone. There was a big scandal last year when I proposed it.
Today we can't find some low-income citizens to send them the COVID aid [they have to manually apply, while some work at gray economy]. If we had a universal taxation system, we could see who is really low income and send the aid quickly.
https://armenpress.am/arm/news/1014457.html

Pashinyan about nature protection:

4 mines were suspended. 3 were gold, 1 copper.
0.5mln trees planted in 2019. Our 10mln plan for 2020 was ruined by COVID.
Lowest water drain from Lake Sevan in 10 years. The drain was far below the legal limit.
https://armtimes.com/hy/article/187239

Pashinyan about sacking Nature Minister Eric Grigoryan:

He managed to accomplish a lot since 2018, but it was time to "make decisions". Eric solved the problem with illegal water usage by small hydro-plants, and hydo's problems with fish.
Lots of freshwaters were saved in Ararat Valley through underground well conservation.
https://armtimes.com/hy/article/187248

Pashinyan about making soldiers' lives easier:

225 modern surveillance systems were installed on frontlines. 64 positions were connected to an industrial-grade electric grid. 134 positions received flowing water.
35 positions received modular baths. 90% of constricts will be enrolled in a high-quality food program this month. Overall, 54% of soldiers get new food.
Soldier wages up to +30%.
https://armtimes.com/hy/article/187231

Pashinyan about his biggest failure, the story of Sodom and Gomer:

Our biggest fail is the recovery of the stolen funds. Nonetheless, in 2019, SIS recovered 7x more money than it had throughout its entire existence. Other law enforcements increased it ten-fold.
Still, it's not enough. Our legal and judicial system has a small percentage of independent dedicated great professionals. But there are also traitors and illiterates.
Why haven't we acted in the past 2 years, then? Remember Sodom and Gomer story. If the city has 50 honest residents, would you still destroy it? The answer was "no". How about if there were 10 honest? Still "no".
Today the justice system has 50 honest workers. That's why we didn't destroy it. I'd like to thank those 50 workers.
https://factor.am/247241.html

Pashinyan about launching mass-construction to keep workers busy:

17,000 more arrived than left Armenia. Now they can't leave [to Russia] for work due to COVID. How will we help them?
This year we'll launch a construction/renovation of >100 education and healthcare facilities. This could keep them busy for years. The biggest problem is, do we have the necessary construction companies that can win the contracts?
Last year we maxed out the construction capacity. We got every company busy. There is one road we want to repair but we can't find a company.
https://factor.am/247238.html

Chinese workers left

Infrastructure Minister Papikyan said: the Gyumi-Yerevan highway construction stopped because the Chinese workers left earlier. The road condition is deteriorating. We're negotiating with SinoHidro firm to bring the workers back. Time is of the essence. If we can't agree, we might have to find alternative solutions. (COUGH COUGH look up Papik COUCH)
https://armtimes.com/hy/article/187309

Pashinyan about Artsakh conflict:

No other Armenian leader has been this open and transparent about the topic. Any practical decision must be acceptable for Armenia, Artsakh, and Azerbaijan. My opinion hasn't changed since May-8-2018.
https://armtimes.com/hy/article/187253

How did Artsakh negotiations shift over time? / Phased resolution

Recently the Russian MFA Lavrov claimed the Phased resolution is "on the table". Armenian MFA rejected it, saying Artsakh's independence must happen simultaneously with any possible concessions.
Until 1996, Armenian approach was that Artsakh was independent of Armenia, so you should talk to Artsakh separately if you want concessions. This gave Armenia flexibility by easing the pressure. It also gave Artsakh more weight during the negotiations.

However, in 2001, president Robert Kocharyan had this to say: Over time, the approach to treat Artsakh as a separate negotiating party started to backfire because foreign powers began pressuring Armenia so it would pressure Artsakh. That's how the unacceptable Phased approach was born. In 1996, we [Artsakh president Kocharyan and Armenian president Ter-Petrosyan] decided to increase Armenia's role in the negotiations [and decrease Artsakh's].

Two decades later, Pashinyan decided that it's best to return to the old format and increase Artsakh's role in the negotiations.
Nowadays people point fingers about "whose fault it was" that Artsakh was left out of negotiating table, "why is Pashinyan dealing with a Phased approach", etc. Rob gives you the answers in an MP4 format: https://youtu.be/yd8bgFFN7Xg

NIKOL THE ALCOHOLIC

HHK activist published a photo of vodka distillation equipment: "That's Pashinyan's favorite govt-owned property. This morning they brought it to his residence to serve him alcohol so he'll claim to be drunk and unable to remember how he gave away Artsakh to Azerbaijan."

Court decides to arrest Serj's son-in-law Minasyan

Media and mining magnate Mikael Minasyan was charged with money-crimes. A month ago the prosecutors submitted a petition to arrest him. Today the court approved his arrest.
Fugitive Minasyan released a message: there is no justice in Armenia. Pashinyan has already convicted me. I will return to Armenia because it's hard for me to be away when my friends and family are persecuted.

Where is Mikael Minasyan?
QP MP Alen: I think he's somewhere in Moscow suburbs, but it can't last for long. Things are going slow because it needs to be done legally. I think you should expect a hot summer.

Why are so many former regime's suspects able to run?

QP MP Gayane: someone in law enforcement should be held accountable for people escaping. Gurgen Khachatryan's escape is no accident. There is sabotage in the system.
https://armtimes.com/hy/article/187229 , https://armtimes.com/hy/article/187273 , https://armtimes.com/hy/article/187268

Pashinyan about the justice system. and his plans to fill NSS with "outsiders":

Armenia's law enforcement system is in shock because they witness something that they thought would never happen.
Some of them can't believe that their long-time target [me] is standing here as a Prime Minister. My goal was to help them overcome the shock, but the shock is still there.
We should reform the law enforcement instead of chasing the cops with a stick. The upcoming new police agency will consist of educated current cops and outsiders.
For a while, my stance was not to appoint outsiders to NSS. That period is over. The rapid appointment of [28yo] Artsashes Qaramyan as Investigative Committee member then as deputy NSS chief was part of this.

Today's Stock Market News [Monday, March 23rd, 2020]

Good morning traders and investors of the stocks sub! Welcome to the new trading week and a fresh start! Here are your pre-market movers and news this AM-

Flume & Friends: An Introduction

As I'm sure all of you are, I'm incredibly hyped for this Red Rocks show after seeing the announcement video. While Flume is normally a big enough draw on his own, I was blown away by the quality of the featured artists that are going to be at the show as well. I figure a lot of people here have some familiarity with these artists, but for those that don't, I thought I'd share a couple of my favorite tracks from each of them so you have an idea just how incredible this is going to be.

Cashmere Cat
Mirror Maru
We'll kick things off with the song that put Cashmere Cat on the map, 2012's Mirror Maru. A fantastic track with some truly beautiful textures, this one is still on pretty much every single "chill" playlist I make.
9 (After Coachella)
Off his album of (almost) the same name, which features massive artists such as The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, and Ty Dolla $ign, this collaboration with MO and SOPHIE stands out. Features many aspects of the latter's work, as the floaty pop the track begins with gives way to a filthy drop filled with industrial sounds that I guarantee you won't be ready for
Shlohmo
Rained the Whole Time (Nicolas Jaar Remix)
I won't lie, I've mainly picked this one just so I can sneak Nicolas Jaar on here somewhere. It's still a fantastic track though and exemplary of the type of music he was making at the time, as Jaar adds a little more bounce onto the wonderfully atmospheric original.
Headache of the Year
A different era of Shlohmo and a completely different sound, as he blends his earlier subdued electronica with booming guitars and drums to incredible effect on last year's apocalyptic, overwhelming album The End.
Mura Masa
...Girl
God damn this guy used to be so fucking good. I haven't enjoyed much of his recent stuff, but his first album Soundtrack to a Death is just so much fun and remains one of my favorite electronic projects of the last decade. This song is great, the whole album is great, give it a listen and thank me later.
Love$ick
Just an absolute classic. A perfect summer song featuring a couple brilliant verses from A$AP Rocky, this is pretty much the only thing my friends and I listened to back in high school for a few months after it came out.
Clams Casino
All Nite
Clams Casino pairs up with Vince Staples, electronic music's favorite rapper, on this cut from 2016's 32 Levels. It's right up there with Staples' best stuff from the Summertime '06 era for me, and the production is excellent, creating a disorienting effect by pairing the bass-heavy beat with effects of birdsong and croaking frogs.
Kali Yuga
Someone needs to hop on this beat that's all I'm saying
KUCKA
Walk With Me
KUCKA has very little solo music so I've gone with a track she features on, by Cosmo's Midnight, to start. Light and bouncy, this is pretty much a perfect electronic pop song and KUCKA's vocals are as stunning as ever on it.
Honey (Medasin Remix)
Medasin drowns the original instrumental in a sea of murky synths, which KUCKA's vocals cut through like a hot, soprano, knife through butter. There's also some wonderful sidechaining on this track that brings me back to Flume's self titled album.
SOPHIE
LEMONADE
Man this stuff is bizarre. SOPHIE's early work (and much of her later work too now that I'm thinking of it tbh) comes off as someone who's only ever listened to pop music while on a fucking ton of acid trying to make pop music themselves. It's brilliant in its own way though and I just keep coming back for more. This kind of harsh, industrial sound has crept more into the mainstream in the past few years (largely becuase of SOPHIE herself) but this shit was groundbreaking when it came out and I still haven't heard much like it.
It's Okay To Cry
This is a more recent track and the progression is clear, as SOPHIE brings in more "classical" musical concepts such as melody and rhythm to supplement her incredible sound design. It's way more subdued but it's a beautiful song and there's still that feeling of chaos lurking just beneath the surface.
Toro y Moi
Rose Quartz
One of his most famous songs, and it's pretty easy to see why. The instrumental is fantastic and feels a lot like some classic Chrome Sparks stuff, and some great vocal layering and an instantly memorable chorus seal the deal.
Omaha
A bit of a departure from the rest of the songs on this list, while it features some electronic effects, this is pretty much a straight indie/alt rock track. That's the kind of music I mainly listen to so maybe I'm a bit biased, but I love it and it's a good example of Toro y Moi's capability in that area, which feels important since so much of his music is in that gray area in between electronic and indie music and that's one of the main reasons I like him so much.

Well, that about does it. I hope you guys enjoyed and found a few tracks/artists you haven't heard before, or at least were able to revisit something you haven't heard in a while. Can't wait to see you all at Red Rocks!

UK extended quarantine: casinos won't open until 15 August.

UK extended quarantine: casinos won't open until 15 August.
The ban on casinos, bowling and indoor events has been extended by two weeks. The British Prime Minister announced the first postponement of the quarantine measures in the pandemic. The government lifted the travel ban in China and several casinos operate in Macau. Land-based casinos were planned to open from August 1. But it was not a press conference that Boris Johnson said that from August 8, the mask regime will be strengthened, and establishments in which the risk of infection is higher will remain closed until mid-month. According to the National Statistics Service of Great Britain, at the beginning of July, the spread of the virus was recorded in the framework of one carrier per 2 thousand uninfected people. On July 15, the figure was one per 1.8 thousand inhabitants, on August 1, already one infected per 1.5 thousand healthy people. In this situation, the government reached the limit on easing quarantine measures, it is forced to shift the next stage until at least August 15, the Prime Minister said. The situation is similar in Scotland and Wales. Pubs and other food service establishments opened on July 6. The government announced that changes in the restrictive regime were possible on July 15, but has postponed the opening date. Casinos and bookmakers are preparing to receive visitors with social distancing and disinfection from August 24 . www.aussiecasino24.com

Is it the PSU 2

So basically, on demanding games my pc would crash after maybe 1 minute at most. It’s much quicker when I use discord. These aren’t even like the most demanding of games, when I’m in discord I couldn’t complete the casino heist on gta because after 20 minutes my pc would crash, and immediately restart itself. At 1080p. On the lowest settings. And I can’t even get 10 seconds into the tutorial on valorant.
I did some tests, and I was on 300+ FPS on valorant, both cpu and gpu temps were below 40 degrees Celsius (I think 104 degrees Fahrenheit), and I got maybe 20 seconds into the tutorial before my entire system crashed.
I have the Corsair cx 750m psu, and I’ve heard pretty negative things about the cxm series, so I’m 99% sure it’s the psu.
I just want to make sure it is the psu before I go returning things. If any other specs are needed I’m happy to help.

Sunken UFO

Hey all,
So around 5 years ago, back when we were still speculating on the mural, my interpretation (as well as others) was that we needed to use poweelectricity in some way. We have lightning bolts on the mural, the space docker, etc...
There are 3 images in game of the Sunken UFO emitting power. The first image came with the very first major update to the game. All 3 images show an orange light coming off the top. The last image was recently put out with the Casino update. https://imgur.com/VDo5kyY
Thanks to that image, we have a hint at it being night. We know that the UFO does in fact have an orange glow at night when the water is lowered. And the light is the strongest at 4 am before turning off. I understand why people are skeptical because this was found using a mod, but if that's the case then why does it only happen at night during certain hours, and why does the glow intensify right before 4 am. My gut tells me time plays with this thing. https://imgur.com/w9sAJ2S Edit: Someone pointed out that the orange glow is a lighting anomaly by messing with mods.
When you eat the golden peyote the mini sub icon is the only icon that appears on your map. Could be a clue.
This UFO is completely different than the others in game. It's almost twice the size, and the only one we can assume isn't made by FIB.
I am working towards 100% right now to start playing with it. But in light of all the new information, especially with sound/time, is there something we could have missed with this thing? Why does R* keep putting images in game of this thing emitting power when it never has? If that isn't telling us something I don't know what is.
Edit: I was reading this post from yesterday. If his interpretation of this is correct. Then the "eye" should line up almost perfectly with the sunken UFO. https://i.imgur.com/H6FcCxU.png To be clear, I'm not one for overlays, but that post has made me think otherwise.
Kifflom!
Edit: Someone pointed out a detail in the "dotted" UFO wall art. One of them could the sunken UFO with the dark and green, and the other one is all bright like it was turned on.
Also realized the back tattoo with the UFO and the arrow pointing down. I get thats a nod to spinning_anus, but could have a double meaning.

If you don’t follow my main sub or just aren’t familiar - the end-of-life for all of my stories like this is publication as a novel on Amazon, and I’ve got six out to date :D This week, I did a relaunch on my space opera/scifi series! If that interests you, check out this thread for more information!
When we left off, Terra and Alice had just left Heracles behind in the alley. Despite attacking Terra, he seems oddly conflicted about her war with Gaia. With him fading into the distance, they set their sights toward Fortune and Fate.
I sighed. My hand stroked back and forth across the skin of my neck, trying to work some feeling back into it. Or to work some feeling into it besides pain, rather. I was feeling that just fine.
Alice hurried along at my side, clutching her clipboard and pen. One of her braids had fallen loose of its pins during the commotion of my encounter with Heracles. It dangled along her face, bouncing with every step. “You’re sure you’re all right, mistress?”
“I’m fine.”
“We could stop, return to Avani for a spell. You could rest. Heal your-”
“I’m fine, Alice,” I said, biting back something sharper. “We need to keep moving.”
Besides, the looming white glory of Fortune’s home was right there in front of us. Right there. If I had to turn around and leave it behind me, I might scream from the frustration.
I froze, my eyes widening. Something was close - something small, something marked by the tiny scritch-scratching of claws on stone. Something like-
Alice yelped as the tiny white shape shot from around a corner. Her hands pulled up, shielding her face from the new threat.
I laughed, steeling myself. Claws dug into my legs a second later.
And then the fox sat perched on my shoulder, its face a thin inch in front of mine.
You survived.
“Surprised?” I said, forcing myself to relax one muscle at a time.
We are. But Master is amused. He laughs.
“I’m glad to know I’m entertaining, at least.”
Alice shrank back, still looking decidedly unsure about our new companion. “Is that thing...coming with us?”
“If it wants,” I said, turning back for the building. “I’m assuming Inari’s going to show up at some point?”
Likely.
“Wonderful,” I muttered, screwing up my face at the thought of the god poking his nose into my business again.
More than just him, probably. Fortune seemed to be popular - or if not popular, at least needed. From what they’d told me back when I first signed Toby on, I needed the approval of Fortune and Fate to meddle in mortal lives. Or at least, their understanding.
They were aspects, anyway. Avani and Ebb had sequestered me away to keep me from interacting with other gods. Fortune probably wouldn’t do the same.
“Mistress?” Alice’s carefully measured voice slipped across the edge of my awareness. I’d stopped walking. Apparently, she’d finally noticed.
I kept twisting, ignoring her while I inspected the outfit Toby had devised for me. “I’m too conspicuous. I look like- like I just escaped from a-”
“Somehow, I suspect whatever you’re about to say will be wildly inappropriate for someone of your status,” Alice said, straightening her glasses.
I snorted. “Never stopped me before.”
“You never wanted favors from Fortune and Fate before.”
“I guess. I’m not going to stop being me, though.”
She sighed, wrinkling her nose and looking away. “You might try.
“What was that?”
“Simply remember your manners, mistress,” Alice said. “I presume someone at least began teaching you those, before realizing it was an exercise in futility.”
“Fuck off,” I mumbled, turning my eyes back to my clothing. If we were going to be around other gods...this was a bit of a problem. I stuck out like a sore thumb, thanks to Toby’s creative tailoring.
I pursed my lips, holding my hands up ever so slightly. Everyone else seemed to have some level of control over themselves. Fortune was running around changing from man to woman, dammit. I wasn’t asking for much. It wasn’t like I wanted to eliminate all his hard work. Just...disguise it.
I breathed in slowly, still burning at the motion. Heracles really fucked me up. I’d have to find a way to get back at him for that. But for the time being, I put that aside, holding the image of myself in my mind. A cloak would be nice. But, at the same time, with everyone here taking on some sort of semblance of modern clothing…
A whisper of air danced against my skin. Fabric brushed my cheek, my hair. I opened my eyes.
Alice stood a few paces away, her eyes on me - and an amused, smug smile on her face.
Elation shot through me as I moved, feeling something move with me. There was a new addition to my wardrobe. If this had truly been some sort of fantasy realm, I’d have called it a ‘cowl’. Given that everyone was dressing closer to normal humans, ‘poncho’ was about as good as I could do. It draped across my shoulders, falling from neck to waist in drab brown waves that hid most of my cleavage and midsection.
“Better,” I said, satisfied, and reached up to pull the hood over my head. The fox squeaked in my ear, sliding under the fabric and slinging itself around my neck as usual. Part of me wondered how it had stayed put while another layer was added. Part of me didn’t really give a shit. The no-fucks-given part won handily.
“Feeling better?” Alice said, holding a hand out as I stumbled forward again.
These fucking feet. They were going to be the death of me. “I’m fine,” I said, waving her off. “We’re right here.”
The fact I’d already lengthened my feet helped, too. I didn’t have metal to work with, but ‘wood’ was a broad category. It had only been a few changes so far, but already, my steps were more sure, more confident. All I had to do was find the right mix, and maybe I’d be walking like a normal human being instead of an arthritic, amputee grandmother.
Alice let her hand fall as I passed, falling in alongside me.
The golden spire of Fortune’s home rose taller and taller, filling the sky until at last I turned a corner. Just like that, the alley opened up, stretching from side to side into a courtyard wrapping the building in cobblestone paths.
There were other gods here, too. Fucking wonderful. None of them were paying me the slightest mind, which probably had something to do with the fact that my tits weren’t hanging out anymore. So that was a plus. I crept forward, wishing I had a decent pair of pants to go along with the new shirt. The rest of me was normal enough, but the legs were weird.
“Slow and steady,” I whispered, trying to ignore the sweat rolling down the small of my back.
“Relax, mistress,” Alice said, leaning forward to smile at me. “You’re like...a dryad, really. It’s not all that unusual. The children of the forest dwell around some of the Earthmother’s lands.”
“A dryad? Well, that’s just great,” I muttered, hurrying my steps along. “How many dryads trip over their own feet?”
Alice didn’t reply. And even if I was sassing her, it did make me feel a little better to know I wasn’t a total oddity. Taking another deep breath, I forced my limbs to relax, my legs to stretch out more naturally.
Maybe it worked. Maybe I was just kidding myself. But no one stopped me as I slipped through the grand doors into Fortune’s temple and-
Stopped.
My eyes wide and round, I looked from side to side, drinking it all in. Her domain had been normal enough before. Gaudy, yes. Ostentatious, yes. But normal. This?
This was like a gambling addict’s dream, the physical embodiment of foolishness and greed. Lights hung from the ceiling in multicolored, garish waves. A bar pressed against one wall, the backstop covered in multicolored glass bottles and neon signs. The rest of the room was filled with machines pressed side by side, close enough a person would struggle to walk through them. A blackjack table sat in the corner, a deck of cards still waiting on the corner.
The only thing that seemed truly out of place was the chess board set up in the very center part of the room. Everything else looked like it’d been ripped straight out of a Hollywood casino set. That? No. That was different - even before you saw the rows of chairs set up reverently around it. But, well, these were the gods.
And this was why I was here. Maybe Fortune had known. Maybe this was all intentional. It seemed like the aspect’s style to toy with me.
“Back so soon?” With my scan of the room complete, I wasn’t surprised in the least to hear the voice cut across my senses - smooth, and female, and as rich as I’d ever heard. Fortune sauntered out from behind a slot machine, her hammered-brass eyes locked on mine and a grin plastered across her cherry-red lips. “I heard you died, darling.” She winked at me, her grin widening. “Oh, I knew better.”
“Yeah,” I mumbled, feeling a blush spread across my cheeks as she stepped past. “Uh. Gaia really tried, but...it didn’t stick.”
“No, it did not,” Fortune said, taking a seat at the bar and leaning on one elbow. Her chin came to rest on her outstretched palm, her fingers tapping against her face. With a start, I realized that Fate stood in the shadows behind the counter. He just...waited, as somber and rigid as ever.
A pair of fingers snapped. I flinched, looking back to Fortune. She chuckled, low and soft. “Pay attention now, dear.” She tilted her head to one side, inspecting me. “I didn’t expect to see you so soon. I presumed you’d hide, rather than pay your debts.”
My bemusement at her appearance and the state of her temple vanished in an instant. “My debts? I don’t owe you, Fortune.”
“You toyed with the life of a mortal, minutes after awakening,” Fate said. His voice rolled across the gaudy room like the tolling of a bell. “There are consequences.”
“I picked a prophet,” I snapped. “That’s allowed. It has to be. It’s bullshit otherwise. Besides, Toby is mine now. How big of a deal can it possibly be that I needed to get his attention?”
Again, Alice quivered at my side, silent. I turned away, exasperated. She was perfectly happy to nitpick and meddle when it was me sitting around. Put her in front of any of the aspects, though, and she turned into a sniveling puddle of obedience. She was my arbiter, wasn’t she? Assigned to help me? Shouldn’t she actually make that a priority, instead of kowtowing to the arrogant asses?
“Yes, I’m sure you meant no harm,” Fortune said, watching me from across the room. “All the same.” She shrugged. “If you weren’t here for that, well. What can Fate and I help you with, Mistress Terra?”
I almost winced. Almost. I caught myself at the last moment, wrangling my face back to a neutral expression. There was a lot of weight in that name - and in the title she’d attached to it. A lot of obligation, and a lot of derision. It was all her way of letting me know she had the upper hand, I was sure.
So be it. I folded my hands in front of me, tucking the edge of my cowl against my palm and pulling it straight. “I’m here for your help, ma’am.” God, the word burned on my tongue. But beside me, Alice gave a tiny, approving nod. I turned slightly, pushing her from my field of view. “I know...we didn’t start off on the best of terms. But I’d like to make it up, and, well.” I shrugged. “I can’t do that if I’m dead.”
“I suppose you’re not incorrect,” Fortune said, raising one carefully sculpted eyebrow.
In other words, I was right. She could just say it. My fingernails dug into my palms, carving white lines against my flesh. “Helping me helps you,” I said instead, locking eyes and doing my best to stare her down. It...wasn’t really working. She hadn’t even blinked.
Inari’s fox whuffed gently in my ear, then scurried free of my hood. It leapt to the floor, dashing across the tile toward Fortune - and climbed straight up her dress.
She...smiled. Her expression softened a hair, and she held a hand out for the fox to climb onto. Idly, she scratched at its ears with her free hand, pulling it closer against herself. The damn thing whickered.
Traitor.
Its golden eyes glanced back to me, though, and I knew better. It was Inari’s, and that meant it was probably just as manipulative as Inari was. I was still expecting him to come strolling through the door at any second, ears pricked and ready to meddle. Maybe this was his way of apologizing for letting me get tortured nearly to death. In his own twisted mind, maybe this was just how he repaid that debt. The thought of trying to untangle what he was after was simply too much for my tired mind to process.
But Fortune was smiling. And I couldn’t waste the opportunity Inari had bought me.
“I want to deal,” I said. I stepped forward, steadier than I’d been since waking up, and let my hands fall to my sides. I held Fortune’s gaze with my own, setting my jaw stubbornly.
“I have a proposition for you.”
